I live in Bristol with my cat and I'm a Medical Engineer.
I live in Bristol with my cat. I love going out and trying as many new restaurants as possible. I’ve just got a house so I spend a lot of my time doing DIY!
I make devices to help treat medical conditions in the brain.
I’ve been in my current job as a Medical Engineer for 5 months now and have been working from home for all of it. I help to design medical and surgical instruments to treat diseases in the brain, like cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Day to day, I research new ideas and design things to bring these ideas to life. I am currently writing all of the instructions on how to use the devices and will be training surgeons up on it in the future!
My Typical Day: I am working from home so I start off my day with a call with my whole team. After that, I call my boss to chat about what I'll be working on that day. I design parts on the computer, write lots of training on how to use them and regularly present what I've done to my team.
As all of my work is done from home, I have a daily call with my team where we have a little chat and catch up on any urgent problems that have popped up since yesterday. Then I call my boss to decide what I’ll be working on that day. It’s usually quite different things – sometimes I design parts for our medical devices, sometimes I write the instructions on how to use our products and sometimes I look into ways to improve what we currently do. I walk around my local park for lunch then come back and usually work on the same thing as I did in the morning. I’ll only ever have one or two different things to work on each day, with about five different tasks going on each week that I can choose between to work on day to day.
What I'd do with the money
Organise more in school events with my STEM team at work
I’d like to get back out into schools as lots of our events in schools have been cancelled because of Covid. I’d work with the STEM team at work to organise in-person activity workshops as soon as restrictions allow.
