Health Zone

Our body is a little bit like a machine: our bones form a robust structure, which is moved by muscles. Our digestive system is in charge of taking up energy from food and the blood stream delivers it to where it is needed. We even have a very sophisticated waste management system, and all of this machinery is controlled by a central computer: our brain.

In this zone you’ll meet an engineer learning about enzymes and how to use them to make useful chemicals and medicines. There’s an engineer who teaches robotics to university students and also designs wearable robotic devices for healthcare, and another who designs and develops skin cancer treatment products. One engineer works on prosthetics for disabled children, while another is studying to invent better implants. Also in the zone is an engineer looking at how environmentally-friendly a system is, and how it can be made better, because if something is bad for the environment it is also bad for our health.
