Improving technology also means being aware of the risks that certain advances might carry with them: cars and traffic accidents, internet and hackers, or nuclear energy and radioactive spills.
There are a lot of people working to reduce the number and gravity of these accidents. There are engineers who design safer cars and roads, come up with new ways of blocking spam and internet viruses, or inspect nuclear reactors down to the tiniest detail.
Engineers in this zone make our world safer in different ways: improving roads, making sure planes are safe to fly, making the internet safer, or designing and testing pipes to move oil and gas at very high temperatures and pressures.
