“Doctor, Doctor! I think there’s huge amounts of engineering in my modern medical treatment!” “Well, lucky you. Now get back under anesthetic.” The surgeons wield the tools, but who builds them? This zone will feature engineers working to improve surgical treatments; designing new medical equipment; making sure hospitals are well maintained, and keep running smoothly… Without these engineers there is simply no way that doctors and nurses could do their life-saving work, and it would be back to back-alley amputations for all of us.
In the Surgery Zone you will meet engineers designing heart valves, and robotic needles that can be steered inside the brain during surgery. There will be engineers looking after computer systems and hardware that can see inside your guts and brains, looking at patients with abnormal joints, muscle activity or skeleton, and working with medical specialists, in the application of computer design and 3D printing to help patients.
