I am part of a team working out how to get gas out of a gas field in the North Sea. We are designing a platform (see the picture below!) and pipelines to do this. That gas will be cleaned up then go to power stations to make electricity, or directly to your house for you to use for heating or cooking.
I work out how much this stuff is going to cost, and work out things that might go wrong with the project and ways to stop them from happening. It’s going to take us a few years and millions of pounds to do all this!
Outside of work I love travelling, my favourite place so far has been Malaysia. I like running, cycling, music and stand-up comedy too!

My Typical Day: Travelling, going to meetings, chatting to engineers, learning new stuff!

Normally, I’m in the office in London. Everyone is really nice and helpful and there’s an awesome food market nearby for lunch times! I have meetings with other engineers, write up reports, and calculate stuff on excel. Today I was working out how many helicopter and boat trips we will need to make to look after our future platform, and how much it will cost!
A few weeks ago I flew to Aberdeen in Scotland in the morning to meet the boss there, and flew back in the evening… that was quite a strange day! Last month I spent a few days at a conference in Belgium, learning about 3D printing. I also go into schools to meet students and talk to them about my job, and sometimes I get interviewed on the radio about engineering. As you can see it’s all quite varied.
