I am a graduate electrical engineer working on a project to send a rover to mars. I run tests on the rover hardware and software to make sure it does what we expect it to do.
Here is a picture of one of the models of the rover just before a test where British Astronaut Tim Peake drove it from space via a remote control .

My Typical Day: Working with the rover test hardware
-
Read more
Typical day would be to get in and chat to my colleagues about what needs to be done during the day. Then would either be down in the lab using the test equipment or up at my desk researching how I can perform other tests.
Currently at the moment we are doing a lot of work with test benches which simulate parts of the rover before they have been completed. These bench’s will have all of the functionality of the rover but will look like a bunch of parts on a table. They are also called flat-sats when the bench’s are for satellites.

There is to be a new STEM center built in Stevenage which will have interactive exhibits for students. I would like to contribute towards the workshops will be held at the new center. I would want the money to go towards new kit for the workshops so that they can maximize their benefit to the students taking part in the events.
The picture below is what the center should look like when completed. With the cool rover yard in the background

Adventurous, busy, passionate
What's the best thing you've done in your career?
I haven’t been an engineer long enough yet to do anything particually amazing, however I was quite proud of writing some code for a software model and it working first time (it doesnt happen often).
What did you want to be after you left school?
Anything to do with space was what i wanted to get into.
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Chatting in class would often get me sent out for 10 minutes, but nothing worse than that.
If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?
I also like programming at home, trying to make games for phones. So i would have also been happy to do that.

Blink 182 holds a special place in my heart. Also Taylor Swift.
