I believe it was North Yorkshire Council’s idea of building an energy from waste plant here in Wetherby. I think the idea was to stop using the landfill which is located next to site for disposing of dust bin waste and dispose of the waste in a more Eco-friendly way. Landfills cause a lot of pollution to the surrounding grounds by contamination, destroying habitats, smells etc. It is also a more efficient way to preserve fossil fuels and reduce green house gases emission from using fossil fuels to produce electricity. Near the location of site, there is an energy from waste plant in Leeds. This has been very successful so the idea of building an energy from waste will help prevent land fill use.
