Sorry i could not answer in full earlier, hopefully the following answer will help you realize why;
So, there are several things which I need to be involved in to bring a building to life;
Electrical Systems, Ventilation, Heating, Water and drainage.
Ventilation is very much like the buildings respiratory system. Not only does the ventilation systems in a building (either natural or mechanical) help provide fresh air for its occupants and remove pollutants so its not smelly, it allows the building fabric to literally breath, and help remove the risk of condensation and interstitial condensation (water within walls). With out descent ventilation a high risk of mold growth may happen, which ultimately is not good.
Heating is like the beating heart and blood line of a building providing warmth. Warmth again not only needed for the “thermal comfort” of the buildings occupants. it is very similar to how ventilation works, helping control the moisture essentially. BUT if you were to have too much heating then you risk drying the building out which could cause it to crack and crumble. The right balance for both ventilation and heating is required.
Electrical systems can easily be described as the buildings nervous system. If anything happens such as a fire, will be detected by some part of the electrical systems. It can also be used to open or lock doors at certain times, turn lights on and off automatically detecting people and their locations within the building.
Drainage i guess can very quickly be described as the building equivalent of the “back package” to get all fluid and slightly fluid waste away from the building. In some cases it can sift and recycle the water somewhat like the kidneys!
Then there is water, i have nothing i can really describe this as but it is very nice to have running hot or cold drinkable water isnt it! :0)
I hope this helps and answers your question. Please let me know if i have misunderstood and point me towards the ball park!
