Hmm… I guess my parents always encouraged me to do my best and I loved solving problems whether it was building lego or doing a puzzle etc. Although I always loved people too so I always dreamed of my career being closely related to people and helping e.g. doctor, vet, lawyer, judge, marine biologist. As I grew up I really enjoyed D&T and making things with my hands and solving problems, but I still loved biology too. So that’s how I found the course I studied since it combines the two.
I think there are a lot more people that I have a particular respect for, but I don’t think you lose respect for those who have inspired you, whatever age. So when I was growing up I had, and still have a lot of respect for Steve Redgrave – winning gold medals at 5 Olympics in a sport as tough as rowing is pretty impressive! Now there are a lot of people in my field who I have respect for, as well as engineers who do things a bit differently, so people like Frei Otto and Antoni Gaudi. I’m inspired by anything that is excellent rather than ordinary.
