Hi! I found some subjects quite difficult, so I had a study hard to understand them. But I had lots of hobbies too so I had to find a good balance between studying hard to get the grades I wanted and having time to have fun with friends and take part in my hobbies too. I probably did some study most nights, but I had days off too 🙂
For me it depends. Around exam time I would be revising every day but still make sure I have evenings to relax and have fun. But normally in school, college, or university I’d be studying in the daytime between classes for a few hours and maybe working on projects a few evenings a week.
I think the important thing is to actually work when you set aside time to do it. If you procrastinate instead of doing the work it’s easy to waste a lot of time and have neither fun or learnt anything. And if you are stuck, ask for help!
Hi Anya, I didn’t but with the benefit of hindsight I should have spent more time studying. I entered Engineering through an Apprenticeship. This involved roughly 50% practical work and 50% study. As a young man I enjoyed the practical side of things much more than the academic. As I matured I started to see the magic of the theory and now have the benefit of both. If I had studied more at a younger age I would have seen the magic sooner and been able to benefit earlier. Study is important but there has to be balance. My advice to anyone these days is – do what you can, push yourself now to gain the benefits later but remember to have fun along the way.
I studied hard when exams were coming up but I made sure to give myself a few days off here and there, and tried to fit some fun activities around studying so I had something to look forward to. When it wasn’t exam time, I kept on top of my work by writing up my notes and getting questions done most evenings, but only for an hour or two each evening, with at least one evening a week off to see my friends.
No, not at all. Sometimes I used to delay revising until just before exams, and then get in a huge panic. I had to resit one exam because of this. Coursework and exams get harder and harder as you go through life, so I do wish I’d made more effort to train myself into a better study schedule earlier
A work life balance is very important. You should be able to get exactly where you need to go by studying within normal working hours. There are of course some times where you have to work over for a particular deadline but mental health and work life balance is far more important than career goals.

Don’t be afraid to work hard to get to where you want to be 🙂 Chasing your dreams is one of the coolest things to do.
