I work in a Team of around eight on the project in a department of 30 – 40. So yes there is a lot of cooperation required, and as each of us take a separate part of the machine we have to trust that the others will make things that work. We also are responsible to monitor and report on the projects we are working on. Hope this helps. Robin

Doing a PhD means that you are in charge of your own project, and you are the only one who can work on it all the time. But I often discuss my work with other people and we share ideas, and if I need to do something that I don’t know how to do I work with someone else for a few days or weeks to learn how to do it. I am also sometimes asked to work on projects that other people are doing, so although the PhD is all my work there is a lot of opportunity to work with others.
