@09scots1: I am an engineer, which means I “design” devices which do particular jobs in the fusion reactor, such a really big vessel that can be pumped out to a vacuum without collapsing. I think of the design, check with calculations, and then tell my draftsmen who make proper engineering drawings of the design what to do. Regards Robin
I’m an engineer too but I’m researching something that isn’t very well known yet, so we need to find out how it works and how we can improve it. So my job is to design and make some equipment for testing – I come up with the idea, do the drawings, find someone who can make it, and put together all the pieces when they have been made. Then I have to check whether the experiment results are sensible by doing some computer models and reading about what other people have done differently. Once I have some good results I can then design a full-scale piece of equipment that could be sold to people.
