Refrigeration is important to keep food fresh and to make buildings a more comfortable temperature to live and work in. But the refrigeration systems we normally use need an electricity supply to work. In some countries there isn’t any electricity supply, and in some of those countries it is hot so refrigeration is needed. By finding a way of using heat to power a refrigeration cycle, these countries would be able to have an easy and reliable way of keeping their food fresh and their buildings more comfortable. Using heat instead of electricity also means the refrigeration systems don’t need electricity from fossil fuel power stations, which makes them better for the environment.
