When I started working as an engineer I wanted to reduce the emissions from power stations, so that I would feel satisfied (that I had done something worthwhile with my life and with my career), I achieve this goal most days… sometimes the progress is slow and sometimes it is fast… making a calculation that can have a BIG impact on the development of a new biomass project (but this may take 2-3 years to see the benefits of my actions), or controlling tests at the power stations (which can make an effect in 5 minutes) each of these in the end, achieve my goals… to make electricity cleaner and better… with less impact on the environment..
When I started I worked with cars and then started working on more worthwhile things in MRI scanner magnets for hospital scanners. I now work in the area which should provide the best hope for energy for future generations without the problems of carbon affecting the climate. regards Robin
I always wanted to work in renewable energy (because I think they need to be developed and play a big part in the future). Now I am doing a project using heat from the sun to power a refrigeration cycle so I do feel like I am fulfilling my main aim, even if it is only making a very tiny contribution to the world.
