Hi Aimee – thats an interesting question. I try not to regret things, I find its not a very useful or helpful thought pattern.
There’s obviously stuff I do regret but its mostly smaller stuff – not the life choices I’ve made.
I do sometimes find I compare myself with other people my age – especially when I think they may earn more than I do or have a more senior job than me.
But when that happens I try to remember to turn the situation around and think about the things that I have to be thankful for – and there’s so much. Most of all, an amazing family – which is still growing! We’re expecting a little girl to arrive in October this year!
So basically no, I dont regret where I am now at all.
So
Aimee
I think that I wish that I had studied a foreign language to A-level and beyond. I deal with a lot of people from all over the world and they seem to all speak many different languages.
No, fortunately not! I have changed my mind about a few things along the way, but it’s all part of the journey. I feel lucky to be able to try out different opportunities and explore who I want to be.
Even when I took engineering at uni, I wasn’t sure it was what I wanted to do. But I knew it was a good degree that could get me plenty of different jobs if I changed my mind.
I’ve not really regretted any of my choices because I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now if I hadn’t gone the route I have done! I’d have never pictured myself doing the job I am now when I first decided I wanted to be an Engineer and the choices I’ve made along the way have shaped this decision.
I’ve had a couple of times where I’ve wondered if I’m doing the right thing though. When I got my exam results at A Level and got into University I was unsure if I wanted to go and if I wanted to study at the University I had picked! And when I was offered my current job in research I was unsure if it was the right thing to do because it was a long time to spend researching something. It can be scary sometimes having to make big decisions – you don’t know what will happen, so you’ve just got to take a risk! Everything works out in the end 🙂
