Lots of homes can create power – they usually do it with solar panels on the roof. But there are other technologies that still need more development but which could be in homes in future like micro-CHP or hydrogen fuel cells.
And homes could store power using batteries.
Some people are even looking at how the batteries in a electric car which is plugged in to be recharged could also send power back out to the grid if there were a sudden shortage.
So there’s lots of ideas that people (engineers) are working on.
