I really enjoy it when I get to work together with other people on a project.
I also really enjoy thinking through a difficult problem and reading what other people have written about it and then coming up with my own ideas.
This is a great question. There’s loads of part of my job I find interesting and exciting it’s hard to pick one! I get to travel and meet new people, I get to present my work to people (it’s an amazing feeling when someone comes and says well done when you’ve been talking about your work!) I think one of the most exciting things is seeing the results of my experiments. It might sound a bit silly but it’s the whole reason I’m doing my research and why I love Engineering! It’s so exciting when you start seeing the result of your experiments and your own work! Obviously sometimes my laboratory tests go completely wrong (you can see a couple of pictures on my profile!) but this just makes me work harder – understanding why things went wrong and what I need to do differently 🙂
Hi tjptaylor
The most exciting part of my job is probably when you get the project brief. Your mind is full of ideas and different ways you think it can be done.
In the short term, it’s probably the experiments I get to do in labs. It’s like experimenting, or cooking, except you have more exciting equipment to play with!
In the long term, it is exciting to be researching something and discovering things. They tell us that by the time we finish our PhD’s we will be the number one world expert on our subject – we’ll know more about it than any other human on the planet! It will be a small bit of human knowledge, but I will be the person who discovered it, so that’s pretty cool 🙂
