      Hi Tjptaylor 🙂

Personally I found further maths was a great subject to do, because I knew I liked maths and so it meant I got an extra A-level doing something I enjoyed. Of course, it can mean more work so it’s totally up to how you feel about it & whether you can manage it – I’m sure your teachers will be able to give you some advice on that.

The modules use the same ideas you learn in normal maths , but take them a step further. Sometimes the maths seems so abstract that you’re not sure why you’re learning it. My teacher used to tell us it was important because “it makes planes fly”! Now that I’m an engineer, I know what she means. It’s the complicated (and puzzling!) maths which underpins so many things – from the energy we use, to the food we eat, to the medicines we take.

I found further maths useful when I went to university to study engineering – a lot of the maths modules there used some of the things I learned in Further Maths, so I felt it gave me a head-start. My friends who have done maths and science at university have said the same thing.

      I hope that helps?
