My first job in engineering was working during school summer holidays in a local design office, hand drawing site layout plans for a new factory.

I had a couple of weeks work experience in Engineering but my first Engineering job was during my summer holidays at University. I worked on a live motorway construction project building a new motorway bridge on the M1 motorway. I still drive past it now and say ‘I was involved in building that!!’

My first job was ‘engineering’ pints of lager in a local pub!
But in terms of proper engineering, it was as a graduate engineer in building services – designing heating, cooling and ventilation systems for commercial buildings
