Brilliant question- waste management and the environment is a very important topic to engineers so well done for thinking of it.
Our Coca Cola factory in Wakefield sends absolutely no waste to landfill- we recycle plastics, metal, cardboard. Anything we need to dispose of that can’t be recycled is sent to be used as a fuel. We even clean all our waste water before sending it to Yorkshire Water to be cleaned further and reused.
Does this answer your question?
On the topic of recycling, this is massively important to my company who produce and distribute 2 billion bottles and cans a year! We want to be as environmentally friendly as possible…
One of the ways we do this is to make our bottles using recycled plastics, have a guess at what percentage of a bottle is made from recycled plastic?
Personally I always try to recycle as much of my waste as possible and here in Devon we are really lucky with good education for the local people in the benefits of recycling.
In my workplace we also recycle as much as we can, scrap mental is sold on for recycling to be used in whatever way and paper is recycled at every opportunity, away from recycling we also run our factory using solar power!
25%… we are looking at ways we can increase this amount. Unfortunately recycled plastic doesn’t have exactly the same properties as normal plastic so we can’t use more recycled material without compromising the quality of the bottles at the present time.
