I think looking towards a more plant based style of living is a good thing. There are some crazy stats. Did you know producing a burger consumes the same amount of water as showing daily for showing 4 minutes a day for two months? 80% amazon deforestation is caused by animal agriculture? and for every 1kg of beef we produce we use 15kg of vegetable protein to feed the cow?
Also an animal free diet produces the equivalent of 50% less carbon dioxide, uses 1/11th oil, 1/13th water, and 1/18th land compared to animal product eater for their food.
With my work we understand how amazing animal products are, and we also know how many small scale farmers are using livestock for land management, biodiversity and sustainability.
So I think it is about reducing the amount of animal products we eat, and being mindful about what we are eating. Do we need milk in our porridge or could we use coconut almond milk instead? (which is utterly delicious!) Could I choose milk chocolate over dark? (I managed to train myself!) A veggie burger over a normal one? And if I eat meat maybe buy from the local market or a butcher you can chat to instead of the supermarket.
If you would like any animal free eating tips and tricks totally feel free to ask me 🙂
Living with my wife who is a vegetarian I totally understand people’s views on animal products. Although I am not a vegetarian myself I do respect the views of others.
Personally I wouldn’t like to cut meat out from my diet (for now anyway)
However, I completely understand why people do it.
If enough people moved to a veggy diet then I think there could be a global positive impact on land use and the environment. I think we’re quiet far form that just now but a lot can happen in a few short years! Watch this space!
Whilst I love meat and believe their is a place for meat in our diets, I think we should eat less of it, from a health and environment sustainability point of view.
I understand and respect people that decided not eating meet. Despite I like it, I don’t eat too much meat, for healthy reasons but also environmental.
