I think solar power will play a key role in the future of providing the world with low carbon energy, and it already is a significant part in some countries. But its very important for us to have an energy mix and not rely solely on one technology. We are very lucky in the UK to have a diverse range of natural resources available to us that can all be used to generate electricity, i.e. wind, hydro (rivers), wave (sea), tidal (estuarys), and more that can create heat (i.e. biomass and geothermal). There are already some countries that are 100% renewable energy powered, such as Iceland, Albania, Bhutan, Nepal & Zambia, but they are also very energy efficient and use a lot less energy then us.
