• Question: say someone new was coming in for a job & you were interviewing them what would you say to convince them?

      Well it’s usually the other way around. The person being interviewed would be convincing me that they want the job and they have the right skills, experience and attitude.

      But I’d also make sure the work we do is right for them. So if they want to design things that we design then great – good match. I’d be honest about the work we do and make sure they wouldn’t be surprised when they turn up.

      I agree with Ryan – normally it’s the other way around and they’d be trying to convince me to hire them 😉
      As an interviewer, I would tell them more about the work we do as engineers in the lab to make sure it’s the right fit for them.

      Hi Ellie,

      I have been in a situation before where the candidate was very good and I could see them fitting in to the team perfectly and so wanted them to accept a job with my company – it can be a very competitive world out there. I find selling the benefits of a career in the company (i.e. staff perks, continuing professional development, coaching & support, opportunities to get involved in other activities), as well as introducing them to the team, showing them around, making them feel at home in the work environment is really important. Besides you generally spend more time with your colleagues day to day then you do with your own family and best friends – so it is really important to pick the right person 🙂
