I went to Manchester University to study Aerospace Engineering, which took 4 years. 1 year was spent on a work placement and the other 3 were spent studying.
When I finished University I found it difficult to get a job because of the credit crunch, which meant that a lot of aerospace engineering companies were not employing people. So my first job after finishing University was working at McDonalds as a shift supervisor. It was the most glamorous of jobs but I did learn a lot from it about how to work and manage teams. My first Engineering job was working for a company called Hyde Aerospace on the design of a helicopter for Barack Obama.
Yes it was my first job right out of university. I also studied Aerospace Engineering at university for 4 years.
Like Sarah, I also graduated during the credit crunch in 2008 and was one of the few lucky ones to get a job in the same field as my engineering degree. I worked for a company that makes landing gears for aircraft (those things with wheels help the plane take off and land). It was pretty interesting and I learned a lot about how landing gears can break!
Good question Brodie. It took me a while to get round to engineering and I’ve had lots of jobs in the run up (banking, property developer, letting agent, even worked in a cattery for a bit). But when I decided that’s what I wanted to do I put myself through Uni and got a job in engineering straight away.
