Hiya!
I did indeed stay in school, I studied up to the age of 17 in France (I did a french baccalaureate, the equivalent of A-levels), then went straight to uni in the UK.
I left school when I was 16 years old because I wanted to be a Nanny and I tried to get on a training course but there were no placements. I got a job as a Nanny and for a while I was very happy because I thought it was what I really wanted to do.
After about two years, I realised it wasn’t the right job for me and I left to try to find other work. It’s very hard trying to find a job with no qualifications or experience and the only jobs I could find were low paid.
I worked in bars, restaurants and hotels for about ten years but never settled anywhere as I wasn’t realising my full potential. I became bored very easily and found the work repetitive and tiring.
During my twenties I regretted not having chosen a college or university education, my jobs were mundane and wages were still very low. I wasn’t getting anywhere and I decided to go to university to study engineering.
Going back to school is the best thing I ever did and now I’m doing work I enjoy that really interests me and I get to travel a lot.
Being content and happy at work is worth so much more than any money.
After high-school graduation, I took 1 year off to pursue my sports career in gymnastics. I think that this one year off allowed me to relax and be more ready for college!
During college, I have not taken any years off, but sometimes I only took a few classes during one semester or took a summer off in order to relax! It is important to relax sometimes so that you can keep going strong with your education and not get burnt out.
Hi mikeydefreitas,
Yes, very much so. I did my all education from school until graduation without any gap.
I am very happy that I stayed in school. Without completing school, I would not have been able to do further education. And without education ‘you earn less and you learn less’ in life!
