The typical way for most people is to study A-levels in physics and maths, then use those to gain entry into university to study a form of engineering, after which you will have the most typical qualifications for an engineering job.

An alternative might be to study a technical diploma at college instead of A-levels to gain entry into university, this helps for people who struggle with raw maths and physics without applying it to engineering.

Some people take an apprenticeship to get into university and before university was so popular many people took very long apprenticeships and didn’t go to university at all.

There is one last step though that I have missed from all of these options and that is getting the job. You can have all the book smarts in the world, but often the best engineers and those who get hired are the ones who are skilled in multiple areas; communication, teamwork, practical experience. These extra skills are often best gained with extra curricular activities like clubs or your hobbies.
