Fast paced and varied, there is always something going on, that’s not to say I have to run around frantically but there is never a day where I have nothing to do, and I get to do lots of different things.

My job is delightfully varied, one day (like today) I’ll be at my desk writing code. At the same time I’m staving off the urge to jump on my desk and dance because I just fixed a bug that was bothering me for a whole week! I may then find myself preparing documents to support my work in order for me to get extra scanner time at the local hospital. If I have an experiment coming up then I’ll have to carefully design and plan it as we don’t tend to get much time on the scanner. We have to squeeze in time before patient scans nice and early in the morning.

If it’s term time at the University then I’ll spend a couple of afternoons down in the lab helping the first years with their experiments. Later on in the week I often go out to local schools to teach them some programming or the schools may come to us.

At this stage of the year we’re busy preparing for a number of summer schools so I’m preparing various experiments and research projects focussed around Electronic Engineering for A-level students considering a career in Engineering.

I would describe my job as varied and challenging and fun. My work changes on a regular basis and I get to research and try out new ideas that haven’t been done before. I get a lot of support from my colleagues and they help makes things fun as well as helping me when things become difficult.
