• Question: I am interested in the type of engineering you do. Is your type of engineering part of making games?

Making games these days is a HUGE undertaking and engineering plays a massive role in it. I’ve trained in electronic and electrical engineering which arguably the games industry could not exist without. All of the electrical systems inside the hardware I was just discussing have to be very well designed to be efficient in terms of energy usage and can’t overheat too much. Good electronic components and design will also ensure your hardware runs as fast as it possibly can.
I also specialise in software engineering which again the games industry could not exist without. Being able to program computers is part of making a game, but if your code is inefficient and buggy resulting in poor frame rates and an overall poor gameplay experience; no one will buy your game. It’s only because software engineers have dedicated years of their lives to developing these highly advanced games engines that can run on relatively cheap hardware.

If you were to go down these strands of engineering I have no doubts that you could make it into the games industry, but it may not be necessarily making the games themselves from a creative standpoint.
