Nope – never at all. Work doesn’t…erm…work much like school. There are people and procedures in place to make sure things like bullying don’t happen, or that you can get them stopped if they do – but honestly, it’s not even a consideration.
No. But it’s a very good question. I’m going to have to (respectfully!) disagree with Matt, bullying can and does happen amongst adults at work, just like it does at school – although it is much much rarer. It often goes unaddressed as people wrongly believe adults should be able to just deal with it on their own.
Most companies, including where I work, have things in place for people if they feel they are being bullied. If bullying did occur it would be treated very seriously.
I have a “mentor” at work – he’s another engineer who has nothing to do with my team or management. Primarily he’s there the help me develop as an engineer but if I had problems, such as with bullying, then I could go to him.
No, but if it did happen our company has a confidential number any employee can call if he has problems at work, or sees something illegal going on, etc, so you can call without feeling you’ll get in trouble for telling on someone, or having to be afraid the person who’s bullying will find out.
