I used to work at a place called the National Physical Laboratory, where they define things like what a meter is and how long a second takes. I worked there measuring the electrical impedance of pieces of coaxial cable – which was much less interesting than building a particle accelerator!
I did a few internships, one was at BASF which is a chemical company, and they own the world’s biggest chemical plant in Germany. I’d bike in to work, and between the front gate and getting to my building on my bike it took about 15 minutes because it was a few kilometers through the plant.
@matt, what part of NPL did you work in? I work here now! Small world.
