I just spent two days designing an aluminium mount that goes between a camera and a lens – drew it in 3D drawing software, printed the drawing and labelled all the dimensions, and this afternoon I gave it to the workshop to build. It’s a great feeling, like youv’e just passed a test and it’s in their hands now for a few weeks before they give it back and i have to test it!
My days are pretty varied so there’s no part that’s always my favourite (except maybe lunch?!) It’s great when you solve a problem that you’ve been struggling with for a while, or when you finish a long project and you know you’ve done a really good job.
I love it when someone comes to me with a problem that they’ve been struggling with and I can provide them with a simple and effective solution. Perhaps that sounds boring, but I get a rush from it!
My highlight is when something I have designed has been made and is delivered to my desk in a big parcel. It’s like getting a christmas present! Its exciting to finally see in reality what was only in your head or on a computer screen.
