Leonardo Da Vinci has to be right up there! I don’t know how many finished, working creations he produced, but the wealth and scope of his technical imagination were astounding!
Just for fun, i asked a friend, James, who’s also an engineer, and he said….
“My favourite engineer is Isambard Brunel! If you want a reason, just take a train ride from Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads (the entire route is Brunel’s work) and have a look at the Clifton suspension bridge (a fantastic feat of Victorian engineering, designed by Brunel, although he never saw it completed) and the SS Great Britain (at the time, the largest ship ever built, and the first iron ship to cross the Atlantic, and the first iron ship to use a propeller).”
