Oxford and Cambridge are certainly good university’s, but there are a lot of other good university’s in the UK too! University was something I considered, but when I left school I wasn’t compeltely sure what I wanted to do. I worked full time in a call centre for a year after my A-Levels, then saw an opportunity to work for the Ministry of Defence as an Engineering Apprentice – it gave me hands on experience whilst completing my HNC and paid me at the same time! I’m now 8 years down the line and considering completing a degree part time (paid for by my employer). Finally, a degree is not essential in engineering – there a many routes to become an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
I thought about applying to Cambridge, but both Oxford and Cambridge are quite different experiences compared to other universities. The UK also has lots of great places to study so it’s more about finding the one that feels right for you when you visit on an open day. Like Daniel said, it’s also worth looking at what other opportunities there are outside of University.
