      Most of my work is done at a computer using cable calculation programs. When on site I usually have a tape measure and a camera to help me get information. Often our work involves digging up the ground so we need to make sure live electric cables are not where we are going to dig. We check using machines which we scan the ground with and they beep if there is electric. We call them Cat and Gennys, I suppose they are a bit like having a metal detector.

      I use mostly software that allows me to check the designs are safe and also draw the designs before they are manufactured.

      A huge variety, including metal, concrete and natural materials such as stone and earth.
