Well all the previous space and in particular mars missions. All of the materials and computing advances that led to the space missions. All the electronics advances that led up to computing. All the mathematical and physics advances that led up to electronics. …Fire, The wheel…

Everything builds on everything that has come before, that’s what Engineering is all about!

Well I suppose the easiest answer for me would be the discovery of oil under the sea! That kind of kicked off the whole subsea oil and gas industry! But on the robotics side, there’s so many discoveries and evolutions that have lead to my underwater robots doing what they do. First off would of course be electricity which actually powers them! But even things like the manipulator (robotic arm) has had a lot of development over the years – don’t tell Abbie but these actually derive from manipulators used in space so we’ve got her industry to thank for that!

That I can do it I can believe in myself and trust in my engineering skills to achieve my goals 🙂 lol

As Abbie said everything builds on something that has been there before. I think in my case it is not really a discovery but more inventions like the computer, the internet, electronics and hardware, etc. The mathematical principles and logic were definitely important as well. When we link it back to my work, technologies like the tablet and smartphones have boosted the area of augmented reality and the development of robots helped to develop automation further in manufacturing.
