My favourite project was installing an inspection system on a boat out in Korea which keeps an eye on all the bits which come out the bottom of the boat. It didn’t actually involve my underwater robot friends and was very challenging at times, but I met some brilliant people and had some fantastic experiences doing that project.
That’s one of the beauties of engineering, all the great experiences you have and all the people you meet throughout your career.
My favourite project was installing a new line that makes garlic slices as I had to go visit the machine at the manufactures in Italy it was a great machine and at night we went to see Milan it was beautiful at night all lit up
My favourite is this project that I’m working on now – the ExoMars Rover. It’s really challenging as its so unlike anything my company normally do, but its so exciting that there is a really good team spirit, and it feels like we’re all working together to do something really groundbreaking and exciting!
My favourite project at work so far was on taking augmented reality (AR) into manufacturing. AR makes use of the real world and provides additional information such as sensory data. For this project we scanned a machine with a tablet using its integrated camera and overlayed energy related information on the machine we could see on the tablet. We decided to use gaming technologies, which are used to develop games, to do that. I would have never thought of this when I started to work on this project 1.5 years ago!
And one project from uni I really liked was to develop a 3D chess game. We didn’t implement the rules ourselves, we used existing solutions for that, but the figures and virtual world was created by us. Sometimes it was really tricky to get the movement of the camera and the lighting right, which sounds quite easy to do!
