I think Design Technology is about the most similar single subject to being an engineer. You have a customer brief, with a problem, and you have to come up with ideas to solve it, and pick the best idea, and develop and make it. But also maths and physics are pretty useful as you have to do analysis and understand the science of how things work and be able to do any calculations you need to do to make sure your design will work.
I think it depends in which direction of engineering you want to go. The most important thing from my point of view is that you want to solve problems. It definitely helps if you also like maths, but I wouldn’t see it as crucial for becoming an engineer.
Tech studies, maths and physics are the biggies but there’s so many routes into engineering they’re definitely not must haves. I’d say follow your passion, do what you enjoy and you’ll never be far wrong. It’s funny how often it leads you down the path you were kind of thinking about anyway!
Science, design and maths are important but there are many kinds of Enginering
What do you enjoy as that plays a massive part in your future if you like working with your hands and being out doors being a software engineer may not be your best path
