“It’s 2017, where’s my robot butler?!” Not far off, is the likely answer (they just can’t quite get the right tea to milk ratio yet). But in what other ways can robotics change our lives? Can robots care for the elderly? Is it possible for them to save lives in disaster zones? Will autonomous cars make driving tests pointless? And, at this point, do they technically own Mars?

Students will meet six engineers in this zone who use robots in different contexts. One helps car factories build cars with giant robots, one uses underwater robots to find out more about the deep sea, and one develops humanoid robots that are used in healthcare, education and business. Another engineer studies robotic control, one investigates how to design robots that can do tasks together with other robots, and one is investigating how people can befriend robots.
