• Question: When did you decide to go into engineering?

      I think I decided to go into engineering when I was about 14/15 years old. I liked designing and building things and was quite good at math and science so it seemed a good fit. I did some research on the internet and liked the look of going to university and the Aerospace Engineering degrees sounded really cool as you got to study all about planes, helicopters and space missions so that is what I worked towards doing. I finished my Aerospace degree at Bath University in 2018.

    When I was doing my GCSEs I had no idea what I wanted to do. One of my teachers had suggested Engineering to me, but I hadn’t really looked into it as I didn’t know what it was, but had that misconception that it involved fixing broken things like cars or boilers. Then I saw on the news a guy being interviewed about a mission to Mars, and he said that British Engineers were designing it. And I thought that if engineering meant designing space missions that sounded pretty cool! So I looked into it, and from that research I realised that engineers are the people that design the stuff in the first place, not the people that fix it like I’d mistakenly believed, so I decided to become an engineer.
