Question: Hi Camilla, you said that with the money you would 'Design an outreach kit which allows users to design and implement a mission'. What does this mean exactly and how would it be beneficial?
Sorry if I didn’t get round to your question earlier – those chat rooms get a bit crazy! But good crazy. We do a lot of outreach at work and often go to events or into schools to talk to students about satellites. Unfortunately we’ve only got some quite outdated models of satellites so I’d like to build a sort of interactive satellite kite. The idea would be to create an interface where students can choose a mission and then they have to to choose for example the type of payload, what kind of orbit the satellite should go into, what other requirements the satellite might have. Once they’ve ‘launched’ the satellite they will be able to see if their mission has succeeded and what kind of data they would get back. Hopefully this will give people a better idea of what goes into designing a satellite. The idea is that it can be portable so people can take it wherever they go.
