I get paid monthly, which is fairly normal. I get paid overtime, so I have a variable pay. In additional to my monthly pay, sometimes bonuses are awarded. We also get holiday, 25 days plus bank holidays – not quite as much as school holidays but still not bad!
The amount you get paid depends on how experienced you are, your skillset and how long you’ve worked at a company. If you want a rough idea of how much you might get paid fresh out of university on a graduate scheme of some kind it would probably be about £25,000 per year (£480 per week) – this varies a lot though depending on what kind of engineering company you work for and where the company is based so it could be anything between £20,000-£30,000 per year. If you do an apprenticeship straight from school it will probably be much less than that but you’re being paid to learn and would catch up quite quickly to a graduate pay grade I think.
