I try to do as much as possible with my free time! I like to rock climb, and try to go once a week with my cousin. I’m also learning German, so I go to 3 hour evening classes twice a week. I also try and see my friends as much as possible, which can be a struggle when I have a lot of work on, but will spend a couple of evenings a week with friends. Usually at the weekends I go to see my family or my husband’s family (and most of the time we end up babysitting our nieces and nephews!), they both live in the peak district so we usually go out for walks which I enjoy too! I also mentor in my free time when I can, I help a level students try to get into universities. I also help out with charity projects that the university run, sometimes volunteering to give food and hot drinks to young people without a home, sometimes visiting elderly people in the community and at times running children’s clubs at the university.
I try to get outdoors as much as possible – being cooped up inside with a computer all day can make you go a bit crazy! I love hiking and cycling especially touring by bike – I cycled up to Scotland a few years ago from where I lived in Dorset and I got to combine so may things I love doing – travelling, photography, cycling and checking out the local cream tea (for research purposes, obviously!). I play the piano and bassoon so try to get involved with music whenever I can, whether watching or playing. I like to do arty/crafty things like drawing, knitting, needle felting too. Plus the usual stuff – cinema, reading, seeing friends, cooking.
I love to make things: jewellery, clothing, cards, amongst anything and everything else.
I like cooking, in fact, I love eating, so trying new things is always high on my menu!
I play piano, mostly just for me, and I play cello in a few local orchestras.
At weekends, I like to meet up with friends, maybe go for a walk, or to the cinema. I also enjoy pub quizzes, or games nights.
And when there’s any extra time, I like reading too.
