I may come across a little pedantic here, but bare with me…
I work at Airbus Defence & Space, specifically in the Space division – if you are interested in anything not space, I don’t know if what I tell you will be the same at the other bits of Airbus (and there’s a lot of it!)
An apprenticeship in the space division looks great and there are 2 options: to be an engineer (the ones doing the designing) or to be a technician (the ones doing the making). Whichever option you chose, you get to work in lots of different departments, so you can have a go and then you find which one is just right for you. It also comes with different qualifications, which are tied in to what you are learning at work – also Airbus pays for that, so you don’t need to find the money for a college course to do the HNC/ HND. The coursework you need to do for the course is already covered too, by what you are doing at work. It looks really social, the apprentices I know are all great friends and they see it each outside work (pretty much the same as us graduates).
Also, a big advantage over university, you get paid whilst you are learning.
