Question: How did you decide that engineering was the career that you wanted to take forwards into later life? Was it the only consideration or were there other things you wanted to do?
I wanted to be a racing driver or a pilot. But, because I am the only child and my parents thought both those things were a bit dangerous, I settled for engineering.
I decided I wanted to do engineering because it’s all full of problem solving and I get to make new things for the world and space everyday! I love the idea of making the world better in some way:D I was originally thinking of either doing dance or music before I knew about the big world of engineering:D
I wanted to study philosophy, English or psychology but I couldn’t see myself doing any of those as a career. I decided on engineering by trying it out. At 15 I was lucky enough to get into a minorities program at a US University to study engineering for 2 weeks and I went. I fell in love with it, not reading about it or attending the lectures, but doing the group projects. It felt right so that’s when I decided to go for it.
