      oh. a biggie!

I talk with close friends and my sister. I explain how i feel and what the problem is. Sometimes just talking is enough and i wake up a few days later with the confidence to solve my problem.

I spend time walking in nature, because i often find this calms me down and when i look around nature, it helps me think about my difficulties in a new way – perhaps the issue isn’t as big as my mind thinks it is (that’s often the case for me). sometimes i then get a flash of inspiration and i find a new answer.

I also take the point of view that if I’m experiencing a hardship at this moment, it’s because I’m actually able to solve it, I just need to trust myself that I can.

This is a ver interesting question. This is a skill that most adults are continuously working on and engineers are not different!

I would say it strongly depends on the type of hardship: if it is something at work I am stuck with, it is often helpful to share the issues with my colleagues and discuss different approaches.

When that is not possible or I am the only person who can solve it, it helps *a lot* to take a step back from the issue and take a breath. Quite often, going for a walk around the block or for a run will help my creativity to tackle an issue.

Also, it is quite important to stay in touch with friends and family -having a strong support behind you is essential if you want to accomplish big things! 🙂

This is a great question, I think I have a few ways of dealing with hardships.

Having a great support network of family and friends to talk to about problems is the best thing anyone can have, being able to trust and talk to someone about hardships is really important!

Work-wise, talking to colleagues and working in a team to solve a problem is far better than tackling something head-on by yourself as you are likely to get frustrated and get stuck. If you have some personal hardships it is good to talk to your manager about them (thankfully mind is very understanding) and you can take time off to clear your head and sort your personal problems out and come back to work refreshed!

If I feel stressed I tend to put on some peaceful nature music and meditate to clear my head and re-think something I am struggling with, it definitely makes you feel re-juvenated and refreshed!
