      I don’t know: I’m officially agnostic.

Nothing I’ve seen in science implies that there is a controlling god.

I’m going to have to agree with Guy on this one. I was brought up by my mum as a Christian, but as I learned more about science, I found I wasn’t able to believe in the religious explanations for the world anymore, the scientific creation story was just so much more convincing, consistent and beautiful.

So I stopped believing in any type of god when I was at university, but we’re scientists so I wouldn’t say there isn’t a god, I’d just say there is no evidence to support that there is one, so there’s no reason to believe a god exists.

If you’re interested in this sort of question, learning about the early history of the universe is an amazing place to start. People like Richard Feynman, Carl Sagan and Brian Cox have made wonderful books and tv shows that help explain how awesome our universe is.

I have to give the agnostic answer. I don’t know! For people who have a firm belief in God, I don’t think they need to dismiss science as being wrong or in conflict with their belief in a creator. Scientists never claim to have the final answer, there is always another question! Over the centuries scientists have presented theories of our solar system and universe which have been largely accepted when backed up by evidence and I’m sure this will continue into the future. Science is concerned with studying the ‘how’, I guess the ‘why’ is the question that relates to people’s beliefs.
