I did a project on the particle collider (the LHC) at CERN in Switzerland for my masters project. I got to work on one of the detectors that looks at finding really heavy quarks, which are the things that make up the nucleus of any atom. There were so many aspects of the machine to consider when we were figuring it out, but we were able to use some interesting maths and software to improve the detector.
