Question: why did you choose to be a mathmatician?

Because found maths at school absolutely fascinating in the later years of secondary school. I was never that great at maths, I was in the lower sets at school all the way until third year (when I was 15). Something clicked, whether it was because my sister got 5A’s at higher and I was competitive, or I just finally started to understand why maths was important. I still don’t know to this day! Maths, to me, was like very short puzzles. So, I enjoyed maths when I was at school and this is why I went to universe to study it in more depth. Whilst at university, I got stronger and more interested in maths and this is why I pursued a PhD in mathematics (with loads of physics chucked in there as well). Maths is brilliant because it is, in my opinion, the “language of the universe”. You may not be a fan of maths right now and I completely understand that… give it time though. If you’re patient with it then it will treat you well =) .
