We do deal with things that happen overseas but it tends not involve building or designing. The C17 aircraft is very good at delivering things to places that other aircraft cannot reach such as places with no runway. It can carry over 60 tons of equipment and aid so it is very useful when things are needed urgently overseas.
Since the company I work for (Thales) is French and has offices all around the world there’s we do a lot of international work. That means projects like the one I work on, Watchkeeper, can be built buy a French company and an Israeli company with funding from places like the Ministry of Defence in the UK.
Good question. Yes, we sell our cars to most of the markets in the world and it is an important factor to consider when developing our cars. For example engineers go on trips to Sweden, California, Dubai and many other places to do climate testing- the cars need to be able to work properly in all temperature/weather conditions.
We also need to consider what customers from different markets want and what the emissions laws in different countries are e.g. customers in America don’t seem to like Diesel cars so we don’t send many over there. It might seem strange but most of the cars we make are sold outside of the UK.
Well being at sea makes across sea situations pretty common – I got back 3 weeks ago from 6 months of being at sea (with some stops in between). We spent a lot of time visiting other countries an working with their armed forces to promote security in the Middle East.
Sometimes we get involved with helping defence companies (like Thales who James works for) to sell their products to other countries….. that helps the British Economy and also diplomatic relations with those countries as well as helping to build other nations armed forces so that they can help provide security in unstable parts of the world.
