When I first started my job I didn’t know if I was going to be good enough to do it but that was only because I didn’t know what I’d be doing. Since then though I’ve felt more settled, I thought I would have work heaped on me but it’s been a gradual introduction and everyone I’m working with have been very helpful if I have any questions etc.

When I first started, I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of work required to develop a whole vehicle. But I now realise that if everyone helps each other than there is no challenge too big to achieve! That is why team work is very imporant in this field, there is always someone I can ask for help if there is something I am finding too difficult.

      Hello greshmaxx,

The thing with engineering is this – either you know the solution which enables you to get on with sorting out the issue or if you don’t have the answers, you go about finding them and learning in the process.

Engineering is all about learning and remembering the techniques and solutions that solve different tasks, if you ever feel like you’re not good enough then i think it may be time for a career change!!

I think there are always going to be challenging times in every job (I have had some when I didn’t know the answer for sure) but the thing about being an engineer is that no one expects you to know everything. When you are first starting out people help you (I also always ask lots of questions so I can keep learning) but as I have gained more experience, I find I am helping more junior people more and more so they can learn.

In my job, the hardest thing I have ever done was in some training exercises last year – very high pressure – but what is good about anything challenging is that you learn something, even if it’s only how you would do it better next time.
